hard drive cannot be found

cannot format disk on pavilion a735w. Was previously running xp home but trying to load xp pro but I can't. Keep getting the message "there is no disk or file system not supported.

not good.
If it is still detected by the bios, boot from a diagnostic disk and run a surface scan. Like hdd scan on the hiens boot cd.

All the files were loaded, asked if I wanted to create new partition, which I tried to do. Appeared to format but at the end said Windows cannot format C. Tried again then got: Mare sure the drive is switched on and properly connected to computer.

Let me add also that I was in the middle of wiping the hard drive clean when power went out due to weather.
