Ok so my hard drive was corrupted just before christmas, I didnt fix it till last week when installed windows to a hard drive from an old laptop.

I was getting the message "a cd/dvd device driver is missing" and i got round this by booting and installing from a usb.

Since then the hard drive as corrupted again (I think football manager is corrupting it) so i have bought a used hard drive from cex. When i try to boot from a cd i get the same message as above ("a cd/dvd device driver is missing" )

If i boot from the hard drive i get the error code "0xc0000098" which i have gathered means there is no system 32. So i have tried to boot from a usb but I am getting the error code "0xc000000e"

Is it not possible to boot from a usb without system 32?

How can i get round this and install windows?

Any help, tips or advice would be welcome.

P.S. this is my first post, sorry if its in the wrong place

My laptop is an acer aspire 5742z and I am trying to install windows 7 onto a 500mb seagate ST9500325AS hard drive

Thanks for the reply, I will give that a go as I already have that driver on a cd. Although I am struggling to get to the windows install/repair screen at the moment

At which point should I be doing this? I am not seeing an advanced opitons button. i have clicked install, then it says the cd/dvd driver is missing, so i found the f6 driver, it recognised it, then i click next and it then asks me to install other drivers
