Was about to buy all my components and start my build but just downloaded and stared reading the manual for the mobo (Asus Maximus VI Hero) and buried in the manual is a list of qualified vendors and corresponding RAM module part numbers. And guess what- no 2x8 [16g] 1600 low profile modules on the list. Was told that with a proper cooler I needed low profile modules so I chose Corsair Vengence, (2x8, 1600, low profile, C10). Downloaded the manual for the Sabertooth which is similar but a little more expensive and it has the same problem.
Do I really need to get modules on that list?

Solution
No. The QVL list simply a list of memory modules that the manufacturer has tested with that motherboard. It is by no means an exclusive list of modules that will work with it.

Memory modules that have standard JEDEC voltages and timings shouldn't pose an issue on any motherboard, but some modules that use higher voltages and/or timings that are tweaked for performance may not work on some motherboards without the manufacturer providing a firmware update.

Thanks for that. Felt like I was spinning my wheels here. Still have the high profile issue with 4 modules and the cooler/mobo I chose so I will probably have to find a different cooler.
