Hi guys, I'm planning to get a card but I'm stuck between the 770 or 7970.
The thing is, I don't really have any games to play at the moment but I would definitely play battlefield 4 when that comes out. So a card which is most idea for that would be best for me. Also, which brands should I go for? And would my psu be sufficient to run these bad boys?

This is my current setup
Z87 MSI GD45 with i5 4670k
8gb ram, corsair vengeance
128gb plextor ssd
1 tb hdd x 2
Seasonic 620w bronze psu
Nzxt phantom 410
Corsair h100i liquid cooling
Nzxt hue

Appreciate all your recommendations and advices!

Nice rig.

For me this is down to personal choice because no matter what anyone here tells you, you can't go wrong with either of this cards.

If you look at this comparison for a rough guide ......

Your splitting hairs here, what I would do is review some vs games benchmarks and get a spread opinion as I find some reviews have bias.

I do know the 7970 can be bought at $298 and the 770 starts at $388 or there about's so your budget is something to consider.

Either way which ever card you choose is going to get the job done, the HD 7970 should handle VRAM performance better but the 770 should be a touch better of graphics performance but as I said splitting hairs.

I would go for the 7970 although they are practically the same in GPU clock speeds and memory clock speeds, nVidia bundles virtual money, meaning you're forced to play those online games to make use of the coupon you got. Because of that it'll benefit nvidia ( who got tons of cash from contracts with game publishers ) more than their customers. As for AMD users, they can choose to do whatever they want with the coupon.

When choosing a card I think most peeps look at three things primarily

1. Performance
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_770/27.html
7970 Ghz has 96% of the performance of 770 @ 1920 x 1200

2. 1. Performance per dollar
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_770/29.html
7970 Ghz has 85% of the performance per dollar of 770 @ 1920 x 1200 (prices have dropped since ... $390 for 770 and $360 after MIR for 7979 Ghz)

3. How is twin card performance if / when you upgrade ? CF Broken

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card-benchmarking-frame-rate,3466.html

Cooling / power and other issues also figure in but not as much as above.

As for PSU

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_770_review,5.html

Here is Guru3D's power supply recommendation:

GeForce GTX 770 - On your average system the card requires you to have a 550 Watt power supply unit.
GeForce GTX 770 2-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 750 Watt power supply unit as minimum.
GeForce GTX 770 3-way SLI - On your average system the cards require you to have a 1000 Watt power supply unit as minimum.

If you are going to overclock your GPU or processor, then we do recommend you purchase something with some more stamina.

PS - JackNaylorPE that performance per dollar guide is whack, how can they judge that when you can get a HD 7970 almost $100 cheaper, poor review that one.

Wow! Thanks for all the recommendations and comparisons guys. So far,
7970 +3
Gtx 770 + 1

So, out of the many choices/types of each series of cards above, which brand should I go for ? I really like the msi lightning r7970 3gb but it seems a tad pricey. I can afford it, just wondering if it will really be worth the extra bucks. Either that or the 770 msi lightning. Palit 770 is on offer right now, with the 2gb jetstream going at $629 and 4gb $669. Bu my friend says that if I were to get the $669 one I might as well go for lightning 770. What do you think? Any other recommended brands for these particular series, as well as why?
