Hello guys.

I am having a problem.

I have reinstalled my Windows XP Professional SP3 few days ago for a "fresh start".
Since Windows contains all the drivers necessary , I only installed Audio and Graphic Drivers, nothing else.

I thought everything is fine, but no.I had problems loading my TDK 4 GB USB.I wasn't able to open it because I'd get an error like: " Please insert a disk into drive E: " , something like that , but at least it was detected by Windows as an Removable Disk.

I knew what would happen if I formatted the USB in Disk Management.I'd lose all my data on it I've been having on it for years.

I found a software for recovering lost data, called " Minitool Power Data Recovery Software ", which enabled me to recover the data from the USB successfully and then I could reformat it to FAT/FAT 32 in Disk Management.

I have an Micro SD Card 2 GB ( For Phone Use ) and an USB 2.0 Card Reader with USB Hub.It used to work perfectly until I tried to insert it in my newly started Win XP.

If I load the Card Reader only , it will be detected as an Removable Disk.If I try to load a SD Card in it, nothing happens. In Disk Management, the Card Reader with SD card in it stands as " Unreadable ".In the Device Manager, there are no exclamation points near Universal Serial Bus.

I have some important files on that SD Card , and I'd like to transfer something from Internet, but I can't.

Can you help me ?

I tried the SD Card with the Card Reader on my father`s Windows 7 Compaq Presario Laptop and everything was ok.

I reinstalled all of the drivers for USB Controllers.

I inserted my Card Reader back in to the USB Port, and all USB Controllers and Mass Storage Device were detected.

I went to the Device Manager and found that one of my USB Ports are dead. ( There was an exclamation sign ).

I inserted the Card Reader into the second USB port and it worked fine.

Will I be having these problems if I try to insert some other card reader/USB ?

Doubt it. You could try looking to see if the troubled port is connected to the proper wires. If it is an on board hard wired device it may have broken. You can try to disable it/uninstall it and reboot. Sometimes windows fixes these errors.
