Hey all, I've used core temp a while to measure CPU temps, I upgraded my mobo, and now my tj max reads wrong.
Before the upgrade it was 70c, that's pretty normal, max my CPU can actually hit, now in the new mobo, it's tj max is 90c, this is 20c above normal, and if my CPU ever hit that, it'd be bubbling goo, is there anyway to fix this?
And is bios my idle temp is reading 41c, when in desktop it reads 28c.

Solution
Yep, that is my preferred method. I honestly wouldn't worry, your temps seem good and if multiple monitor programs state the same temperatures then clearly there are no sensor problems. In regards to the TJ Max of your CPU just abide by the manufacturers website. If you want to you can download the CPU meter widget which you put onto your desktop (if you have windows OS) you can set it to set off an alarm if it ever goes beyond a set temperature. So for example if you set it to 50 as the maximum if the CPU temp when past 50 then an alarm will set off.

sounds like you either put to much or not enough thermal paste on it. its should only be a very thin layer enough to fill the porous of the die. perhaps try re apllying the thermal paste on it and see how that does.

im sorry i miss read your post im not sure maybe the mobo can handle a little more. im guessing you bought a higher end board this time around? besides if your temps arent hitting up there you have nothing to worry about and if its a newer intel the second tj max is proper.

It's a mad, and yep I bought a poper motherboard this time, but its the processor I'm reading not the mobo, my temps in core temp says 28c, but in bios my CPU temp is 45+ that's a big difference, and my tj max, "supposed max of the CPU" has jumped 20c upward

I have now tested with 2 temperature monitering tools, core temp, and speedfan, both are given close to the same temps, 28c idle, give or take a c or so, and bios hit a max of 48c, what do I do from here.

Right, here is a summery of testing.

Bios sits up at 48c
Idle sits at 28c using core temp and speedfan to measure
Running up at load "gw2" hits around 50c more or less
My CPU is a mad phenom ii x4 945 3ghz
It's max temp is 70c
The tj max in core temp says 90c
I adjusted offsets for all cores by 20c in an attempt to conter the increase in tj max, my CPU sits at 70-71 c under load
That should shut down my pc, the other tool says 50c without an offset adjustment,
Considering 2 tools are giving exact same readings, "minuse the offset adjustment"
Should my CPU be safe?
Downloaded and ran hwmonitor at the same time, now 3 tools showing the same temp.

I'd believe this is now the normal temp, and that the article silver 5 really really works well.
4 tools now, added Everest ultimate, same temps.

Does this seem like my temps are truly now this low' if so, just a different thermal paste knocked 10c off my temps.

I did attempt a reinstall of core temp, still says 90c tj max, instead of 70c. I've restarted my pc numerous times, I just can't figure it out, I adjusted the offset of my cores by 20 to try make up for it, resulting in my temps looking to be 70c all the time, where as without the offset 50c
All other temp moniters said 50c too,
But the tj max is off and I can't work out what to do, I looked at that thread you linked, and doesn't have a whole lot of help in It.

I meant there may be some hidden updates within the BIOS update, on BIOS updates they generally just list 1 or 2 major points included in an update, buut generally there's lots of things fixed and updated (and genenerally most if for DRAM compatibility (not that that matters here))

Monitor sensor bug, install other third party software such as HWMonitor or SpeedFan. I never use Core Temp as it also reads my CPU temp wrong. For the TJ Max I would just abide by what the manufacturers website states the TJ Max is.

Ok trade ill look into that, azreal, I used hwmonitor core temp, speed fan, and another one, but I can't remember the name.

A far as I saw, all the same temps.
So I feel that says my temps are pretty eve and chilled,
At least, I hope so, I hope it's not a bug in my sensors, because a 10c drop just using new thermal paste. Seems alot.

That's be a good idea, ill do tht but set it to 60, my cpu does hit 50 during gaming operation, so it's on the mark of just about fine, it used to hit 60 and run at 60 in guild wars 2' now I see it hit about 50-55
