Win 7 X64 Installation Problem

I just built a new system with an MSI Z87-G43 MB, Intel Core i5 4670k CPU with integrated graphics, 1TB HDD and 2 OCZ Vertex 2 90 GB SSDs. I enabled SATA RAID in the bios (v. 1.1) and in the Intel RAID setup I set the 2 OCZ SSDs to be a 172GB RAID array which it said was bootable. I went to install Win7 X64 on the RAID array and the Windows installation said that it could not install to the RAID array because it was not bootable. I don't get it. Intel RAID set-up says that the array is bootable but Win 7 X64 install says that it is not bootable. Can anybody tell me how to make this installation work?

Solution
Boot up with your windows install disk and before windows starts installing, there are disk options, advanced disk options and there should also be an option to pre-load drivers. You load RAID drivers before windows install and then set up the RAID configuration and then install windows. Boot into BIOS set it up before hand, then save and boot up with windows install disk inserted and pre-load the drivers. You might want to let windows do a quick format on each drive before pre-loading the driver and setting it up.
You need install the RAID driver using the "Load Driver" Method.

Download the intel RST from intel website. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22676&ProductFamily=Software+Products&ProductLine=Chipset+Software&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel%c2%ae+RST)&lang=eng
And only unzipped the f6flpy-x64.zip file to the USB. And following the link for how to. When you plug in the USB make sure you plug in the USB2.0 port only because you can use the USB3.0 after installing the USB3.0 driver.

It would probably be best to download the current MSI version of the RAID driver. It even states so when you click on the "which one should I download" link. Or use the RAID driver that came on the MB driver Disk. Then load windows and choose the "Load Driver" option at the beginning of the install.

Thank you for your reply!

I checked the readme file for the RST driver and I looked at Device Mgr. and the RST driver is already installed on my system. I tried updating it and found that my copy is the latest version.

I wanted to load the driver during installation, but windows said that the RAID array was not bootable and there was no option to install the driver nor load windows on the array.

Thanks for your suggestion, Spooky.

When running a Win XP install, there was always an option to "Press F6 to load driver" during the first part of the install. I didn't see anything like this with Win 7 install.

What is this "Load Driver Method" which you both recommended?

At the beginning of windows 7 install, you should see an option to pre-load drivers. Have the driver on a usb thumb drive or a CD or a DVD. I found it is easier to load from a USB drive. The 3.0 ports usually do not work until the 3.0 drivers are loaded, so use a 2.0 port. USB drive needs to be formatted in FAT32 which is factory settings for most.

What should I look for or see because I don't remember ANY 'driver' options when I installed Win 7? Is it a little message at the bottom of the page like XP or what??

I am in the process of returning my motherboard to Newegg. I'll try reinstalling Windows when the replacement arrives in a couple of weeks.

Thanks again, Spooky!
