wwrhodes :
So I keep getting the "AMD drivers have stopped working and have recovered" message. I have tried using google and various troubleshoots, but nothing has worked. Sometimes it just freezes my monitor for ~10 seconds, but it has BSOD a few times. I also get pixel sized artifacts after recovery. I tried a complete removal of drivers and installation of both new and old drivers but it did not help. My specs are:
AMD 1050T X6 @ 2.8
4 gb ram
Radeon 5870
600 Watt PSU
Asus M4A79XTD evo
I have also had problems trying to POST after a BSOD from this.
Would you say it is about time to try a new PSU/Card?
Well you got a interesting one, and at this point the issue can be any number of parts generally. So lets go down the check list:
1) Checked Temps - What are the temps your seeing, not that you believe they are fine for that system
2) Have you dusted it out and with the side of it open confirmed before BSOD occurs you can see the fans all working? Do you feel any excess heat, say from the PSU?
3) POST problems usually points to one of the key component; Mobo, PSU, CPU, Memory. You can run a Memtester and see if comes up with any problems, also your not mentioning any 'beeps' that would indicate a problem.
4) Does this have onboard Video, try running on that and remove the video card. If the issue continues then you ruled out the Video Card perse is a issue.
5) Test #4 with another PSU, does it change? Again rule out the PSU.
6) Test #4/5 with only 1 stick of RAM (if #3 came up clean). Does it continue? Again rulling out another component.
7) Your down to a few items left, backup all data (Windows Easy Transfer is great tool to do that for you) wipe the drive and start with a clean Windows install. Install all current drivers, then see if you still have a repeat with a clean Windows, no Video Card , 1 Stick of RAM on 2nd PSU. If so then either the HD is going or the Mobo.
8) Considering the age of the parts, you may then need to consider a system replacement. You can grab a nice i5Core off the shelf at Walmart for around $400 or so, swap out the PSU, and put in a new Video card, and you have a gamers rig on the cheap with all the warranties and licensing intact with alot more UMPH and capacity then what you have now.
