Hello I'm recently experiencing hangs and freezes regarding the error application not responding which happens to almost all of my programs, preventing me from ctrl-alt-del so I end up cold booting. This has been happening whenever I play fullscreen games. I've searched for similar problems and I came across a thread talking about dwm.exe being the culprit so I disabled it from startup. After this the problem seemed to have disappeared, at least temporarily. After 2 hours playing Civilization 5, it happened again.

I cannot seem to track the source of it because it doesn't show up in event viewer besides the cold booting errors. Though after this one specific cold boot, I did get Event 129, iaStorA which states there was a "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued". This is the first time I've seen this error but I'm not sure if it pertains to this specific issue as I've had to cold boot several times today trying to isolate the source but with no results.

Is there a better way of isolating the issue since event viewer can't really find the source?

This seems hardware related issue. I can think of few possible things for you to check. Your ram - Try reseating the chip or replace with another if you can even if to test.
Your CPU - Try checking what temps you are getting when running games or apps. I use realtemp which is a nice app to check.
What hard drive are you using? What OS are you running?
As a general thing try reseating all components and see that they are securely connected. A loose connection can cause problems.

I use a 1 tb hdd and I have W7 ultimate. Also I've tried other intensive games just to test if it's the GPU as they usually cause it to run at 97C. I ran several games for around 45 mins each and I had no hanging. I haven't tried with Civ5/Natural Selection 2 yet (only games that caused this thus far). But I'll try to monitor cpu and reseat the RAM asap.

I just played a session of Civ 5 For 2 hrs straight after uninstalling some software that I installed the day before this started happening (Intel Management Engine and another Recovery software that came with it). My GPU ran at around 97C (which is pretty standard for me) and my CPU was at around 43-45 C avg. There was no hanging whatsoever and I haven't reseated my RAM yet.
