I have just put together a build based on a fair bit of research here (thanks!), but would value the community input in terms of ideas or improvements:

Antec 900 case
Asus Sabretooth Z77 mobo
Intel i5-3570k (overclock to 4.7)
Hyper 212 Evo & Arctic Silver 5 compound CPU cooling
Nvidia GTX 770 4mb (Gigabyte Windforce)
Corsair Vengeance 16gb DDR3 (1600mhz)
Corsair 850W (CMPSU-850TX) PSU
240GB Corsair Force GS SSD SATA-III
4 TB Seagate (4000 GB) SATA-III
Asus PCE-N15 Wireless LAN 300Mbps (PCI-E)
ASUS VE278Q 27 inch LED screen

Any advice appreciated. Budget is around 2000GBP.

Solution
Ditch the sabertooth. It's overpriced and not worth it. This would be a much better option: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz77xud3h

Drop the thermal paste, its not needed. Change the cpu cooler to a Phanteks one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/phanteks-cpu-cooler-phtc14pebl
It comes in different colors if you want.

Assuming this is a gaming build, you only need 2x4gb of ram.

Instead of getting a large 1080p monitor, you can get a 144hz monitor: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-monitor-vg248qe

You can drop the Gigabyte GTX 770 4gb vram to a Gigabyte GTX 770 2gb vram.

The Antec 900 is not a very good case. It's hard to pick a case because it's all up to personal taste, but here's my recommendations:

NZXT Phantom...
You'll need a better Cpu if you hope/plan to hit 4.7ghz with that Cpu. The Hyper 212 Evo is great for the price, but at higher overclocks(4.4ghz+) you'll start to hit it's thermal dissipation ceiling. You are also spending to much on the on the motherboard. Depending on your selection, I'd try for the Asus P8Z77-V or the P8Z77-V Pro. If your main purpose for this Pc is gaming, drop down to 8gb's of Ram. Do you plan on going SLI in the future? If not, drop down to a 650w to 750w Psu as well.

Thanks for the advice - and so quickly...

- I'll change mobo to a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
- Downgrade PSU to the Corsair 750W (modular)
- I can replace thee 16GB RAM with 8GB @2400mhz for the same price
- Still keen to keep the larger monitor though

Overall I think that has reduced the cost around 10% :)

Is it going to be worth overclocking the i5 3570 at all? I imagine this build could still play pretty much anything out there on high settings, right?

-You don't need 2400mhz speed ram. You won't notice much difference from 1600mhz. Just grab 2x4gb rated at 1600/1866mhz (whichever is cheaper), CAS 9, and 1.5v.
-If you still want to overclock to 4.7+ ghz, you'll want the Phanteks cpu cooler. Getting mild overclocks like 4-4.4ghz, Hyper 212 EVO is fine.
-Since it's only a 1080p monitor, the 2gb vram and 4gb vram makes no difference, except the 2gb version is cheaper.
-The GTX 770 should be able to max out any games on 1080p, so you definitely don't need to overclock. However, having the option to overclock is always good when your pc starts to age.

what about when new stuff comes? if you can afford it might be worth it to have that option when the time comes and you want a performance bump. difference between 3570 and the K is actually $6 right now if you look on amazon. its not like you have to do it
