I just installed a corsair h55 liquid cooler and it is working perfectly, but after I started up my pc the speakers no longer work. The sound manager says they aren't plugged in which they are, and I tried updating drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling them, etc. I suspect it has something to do with the new component because I didn't mess with the speaker plugs.

Solution

You've updated drivers, good. Have you gone to control panel>Sound> Playback (should be the first tab and should be showing when 'Sound' opens) and made sure your Speakers are checked and enabled (default). If they aren't you will need to set them as 'default'. Then try some sounds.

they are connected to the back panel. I looked on the motherboard and I believe the small box with the colored jacks is soldered to the motherboard. I also tried plugging the speakers in the front panel, no luck there. Other speakers don't work when I plug them in either, front or back panel. is it possible I bumped something? I looked online and I saw some things about a bios update but I don't think that would help because I never needed to update it before.

Install the firmware update anyway. It probably won't help but it's a good idea none the less.
