Hi there Tom's! I need help OCing my aging i7 930. Figured it was time to extend the life a little bit. Here are my specs.

Mobo: Asus P6X58D-E

CPU: i7 930 @ 2.8

GPU: GTX 670 Exact GPU: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4211#ov

RAM: 6GB DDR3 Exact: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231335

PSU: Corsair 850TX (850W)

Cooling: Corsair H50 (original version but with push-pull fan config)

Audio: Creative Soundblaster Zx

Windows 7 64bit

I'd like to get a stable overclock somewhere around 3.8-4.0GHz.

If someone wants to throw in some tips about tweaking the RAM to get a little added performance to go with the CPU OC it would be appreciated :D

Here's my Dxdiag

Solution

You can also follow this step by step guide that will work wonders (Same cooler too!) http://youtu.be/FPyHVGmyjQo (920 D0 is identical to the 930 except for initial clock) The 930@3.8+ will not be a bottleneck whatsoever even for a super high-end card like the GTX TITAN. If the OC fails, I can give you a more detailed guide. Also, use your RAM voltage of 1.5 instead of 1.64.

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_titan_review,9.html (Compared to the 3960X@4.6 with a GTX TITAN, 965X@3.8 is equal to 930@3.8)

Man I forgot about this. Thanks for the response, even if it's way late.

The reason I forgot?

That computer was stolen, like, 3 days later out of the back of my car. RIP.
