Yes its worth going for a quad core nowadays. Most of the today's games does uses more than 2 cores and you will get more consistent frame rate in games. Another advantage is that when your system ages and starts to show lack of power on latest games all you have to do is just upgrade the GPU perhaps with some additional RAM, instead of upgrading the whole system that saves you a lot of money. I have a 3.5 yrs old Core i5 750 rig which originally had a Radeon HD 5770. Recently i upgraded my GPU to a Sapphire Radeon HD 7870XT (Tahiti LE). Now I can play most of the games maxed out without a sweat and the upgraded system can do gaming at high settings for another 2 years or so without upgrading the whole system. . Buy new configurations...

Why not get a fx 6300 and spend the extra money saved from the cpu and mobo on getting something like a hd 7870.......It will be much better at gaming...
