My TV is connected to the desktop via hdmi. I have all the nvdia drivers for my system(clicked express install). I also have the realtek hd audio driver. Right so when i have earphones connected through the front port (there's 2 btw: 1 for speakers, the other for headset/ear phone) I don't get sound through it. HOWEVER, after going into audio properties nd changing the default playback device to realtek i can then get sound coming through them. And if i unplug them without changing the playback device to nvdia hd audio then theres no sound from the tv. So obviously this all a big hassle and i'm sure theres a way for the computer to automatically switch?

edit: im using GTX 670 and mobo is Asrock extreme 4 z77

You need to switch manually unless you plug in the headphones to the headphone out on the TV. There may be an audio header connection on the video card, if there is, you can re-wire the case connections to the video card and it may work that way.

The HDMI and onboard sound are two different audio devices.
