Hi,

I just got a Zotac GTX 780 graphics card, and while unboxing it I noticed that there is a plastic plate covering the heat sink fins on the top side of the card, next to the fan.

Does this plate have to be removed? If so, how?

Thanks in advance!

Okay, are you sure it has to be removed? I want to be sure, because I haven't registered the card and I may have to return it if it doesn't work.

How do I remove it without damaging anything? It seems to be fixed rigidly in place.

What do you mean by peal it off? There is a cellophane covering on top of a rigid plastic plate. The cellophane covering can of course be peeled off, but the rigid plastic plate is inserted rigidly inside, and offhand I cannot prop it out without using a flathead screwdriver which might break it or damage it from the edges.

Hi,

I bought GTX 780 Ti and found myself in the same problem as you.
Did you find the solution of how to remove cellophane covering on top of a rigid plastic plate?
My card is installed in system, and i saw that there is covering on the top, but i don t know how to take it off.

Because it is covering the heatsink which is designed to dissipate large amounts of heat from the Graphics card, I would imagine that you WOULD have to remove it, I do not see the logic on covering a heatsink with a plastic like material.

Well, I think that plastic window like part should be there because of blower, but plastic film on it should go off. The problem is that they put it so you have to think how to take it off.

Anyway, thanks for suggestion.

Well, they installed the GPU same day when i bought it :), so i didn`t look in manuals. Everything is working like clock. I was building my new system for 10 months :) (I7 4770K, Asus GTX 780 ti, Asus Maximus Formula VI, AX 1200i, H100i, ssd Corsair Force GT, 2tb WD, Corsair 16 gb ddr3) and i am VERY, VERY happy :) My old system have 5 years, so this is huge step (gts 250) :) Only problem is with my Corsair M90. Everything working, but there is sound inside like part of plastic is going inside mouse, so I am going to replace it today after work, cos it s brand new mouse. Anyway, thanks for your answer :)
