I have a 2013 Dell XPS13. I'm about to trial a BT HH5 which has 802.11ac and 5 gigabits ports. My HTC One has a broadcom ac chip. My Dell 6235 does dual band 802.11n. My question is should I upgrade the wifi card. I know that the wifi card and the SSD are the only parts of the laptop that can be upgraded. Everything else is soldered or integrated onto the motherboard.

Solution
Yes, then it seems reasonable -- the NAS makes the idea attractive to me. At close proximity with an 80MHz wide 5GHz channel you will get very nice speeds to the NAS.

I sync at 79.2 Mbps down and 19.9 Mbps with my ISP. I'm usually only a few metres away. The real reason I'm looking at this is that I plan to buy a 2 bay Synology NAS soon. And 802.11 ac to back up files looks attractive. Especially as my new ultrabook has no wired ethernet.
