If I would get the 3570k then I would get the Asrock z77 extreme4 and overclock it to about 4.2GHz, if I would get the 4670k I would probably get the Z87-G43 but I don't know how much I could overclock it to, would I be able to get it to 4.2 safely? (the price of the 3570k and 4670k is almost exactly the same)

If you're only going for 4.2 I'd get the Haswell 4670k, it should get there easily enough and the motherboards are better for increased high speed peripheral connectivity. Ivy Bridge 3570k will clock higher though.

Haswell is a really heat generating processor series as it produces equal amount of heat as the Sandy Bridge E cpus
So a 3570k is better as it even gives room to go to 4.5 and this would beat haswell 4670k at 4.2 with ease
