What SSD configuration should I go with?

Hello,

Pretty soon I will be purchasing the parts for, and building a new desktop. I plan on running my OS, and as many programs I can off of an SSD, and then using a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black for storage. I do mostly video editing (Adobe software), 3D modeling, editing, and rendering (3D's Maz, Cinema 4D, Fume FX, Etc.)

Now here is where I'm having trouble deciding: Should I run my OS off of a 64Gb SSD, and then get a 128GB SSD for programs? Or should I get a 256GB SSD for OS and programs?

I plan on getting a Samsung 840 Pro if I get a 256GB SSD, but if I get a 64GB and 128GB SSD I will get one 840 Pro, and one 840.. (Should my OS be Pro, or my Programs?)

Other option: What If I just got a 128GB 840 Pro SSD for OS and Programs, and then If I needed more space for programs, I would buy another one..

Tell me what you think would work best!

- Thanks

If you can afford it, best set up would be a 128 Gig SSD for OS + Programs and a 128 gig/256 gig SSD as a working drive Plus your HDD for storage and backup.

PS the Usable space for a 128 gig SSD is really only about 95 Gigs. In for of my systems, No Games, OS + programs only take about 40 Gigs.

Right now newegg has the 256 gig SSD on sale for
You will see very little real life dif between the 840 Pro, Crucial m4 or the Plextor M5P.
Note: I have 3 M4's 3 Samsung 830'3 and two 840 Pros.

get a 256GB ssd for os and usual programs and buy a 1 or 2tb western digital black for storage.

make sure you have plenty of ram aswell 16 or 32GB if you can get it cheap is deffinetly good for 3D rendering etc.

reduce your page file to 512MB as well and disable superfetch service

make sure you get windows 7 pro or 8 (8 home supports 128GB of ram) x64 if you get 16-32GB of ram as home premium only supports up to 8GB due to licensing restrictions.

Today, I would buy a single 240gb 840(non pro).
Put everything on it, and use the hard drive for storage.

The non pro will perform just as well as a pro in normal desktop operations.
The value of the pro is increased endurance. In practice, that means than when the non pro runs out of writes in 10 years, the pro will still be going strong for another 5 years. It is a moot point because in 5 years both will be obsolete.

Larger ssd's have more endurance and perform better.
A SSD wil lose performance and endurance as it approaches full. A larger ssd insulates you from that.
Today, the 840 is on sale, paving the way for the upcoming 840 EVO. If it were available, I would suggest the EVO. Not so much for performance, but for some of the nifty caching things they will be able to do with their RAPID software.

A 128 or larger for the OS and just about all applications. Contrary to popular thought, applications do not take up a lot of space.

My C is a 128GB Kingston SSD. Win 8 Pro, and ALL applications other than games on it. MS Office, Lightroom, Paintshop Pro, an older version of Photoshop CS, a crapload of utilities...Currently 62GB used.
Games, however, live elsewhere. My very modest collection of Steam games takes up 40GB on another drive (HDD).
