I have a HP Pavilion G4 2005AX laptop. It came with preinstalled win 7 and i am not comfortable with it. When I try to boot from win xp cd at start up the cd loads some files and when starting windows appears I get BSOD and it prevents me from installing windows xp. Here's the error I get:
STOP:0x0000007b (0xf8de524, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000
Pls help!

I suspect your bios has set the sata mode to AHCI, not IDE.
XP did not include AHCI sata drivers, you need to include them separately via a floppy or other means.
You could try changing the sata mode to IDE if the bios permits you to.

I suggest you learn to become comfortable with windows which is really much better.

Agree with geofelt.. you really cant stay on XP
Microsoft ends support for XP in April 2014.. which means no more security patches.. or anything.. so you really need to get a grip with a more current OS. I struggle to understand how you can struggle with Win7 .. are you sure its not just bloatware that came with the preinstall? may be a clean Win7 install would be more comfortable.
Cheers

P.S. if you struggle with Win7.. don't even dream of going to Win8..

Try switching to IDE from ACHI or getting an ACHI driver for XP. Also, Mainstream support for Windows 7 ends in 2015, extended 2020. However at this rate Microsoft is trying to make it obsolete by the end of next year. I don't think support from Microsoft is the biggest concern, but rather features they give it and developer support. Windows 7 for example only has some DX 11.1 features and will not have DX 11.2 at all. I assume they'll have the next big upgrade to Windows and DX 12 (if there even is one) next year. XP and Vista are pretty much at the end of their road for support, so I would upgrade to a newer version or dual boot. Only time will tell how much longer Windows 7 has.

While you are correct.. but your comments needs be put into context.. i.e. an OP who is talking about wanting stay on XP!!!
So I think we safe to assume much of your "but rather features they give it and developer support" is rather moot.
And don't forget.. MS stopped Mainstream support for XP in 2009..
So I am guessing the OP is not looking for bleeding edge ...
So an OS which will get security/patch support until 2020 is prob going to be adequate.. even if it will not get new features beyond 2015(assuming MS does not release a new SP.. which they seem desperate to avoid).

Cheers

What has made XP inadequate for more modern systems? Lack of DX11 and good 64bit support. I don't see Windows 7 hitting it's limit of 192GB RAM anytime soon, so that is moot yes. However, if Microsoft keeps releasing OS at this rate and adds a few more DX versions Windows 7 may begin to fall behind in gaming, much like XP did. It's a good OS, the best Operating System out there at the moment. Hopefully Microsoft stops trying to be Apple and returns to releasing OS every few years or comes up with a good OS before 2020. *Sigh* If only Linux would start to gain traction...
