I built my own pc about 3 years ago and I only bought 2x2GB of RAM. I've decided I should buy some more but the ram I used originally is discontinued. I was wondering if anyone knew of either another 2x2 compatible brand or maybe a 1x4GB(if you can mix).

My current RAM is G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM

Thank you

Ram is sold in kits for a reason.
Ram from the same vendor and part number can be made up of differing manufacturing components over time.
Some motherboards can be very sensitive to this.
That is why ram vendors will NOT support ram that is not bought in one kit.
Although, I think the problem has lessened with the newer Intel chipsets. Still,
it is safer to get what you need in one kit.
I might consider a 2 x 4gb kit with the same specs. You will have then, at least 8gb. If you are lucky, add 2gb from your old kit to each channel and test. If all tests out well, you have 12gb. Otherwise, sell the 4gb kit and be happy with 8gb.

If going to stick with 1600, take a look at the GSkill CL7 sets here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%2050008476%20600006069%20600006156&IsNodeId=1&name=7

While there is no guarantee, going with one of these sets will keep you at the same performance level, and if you would like to try to run your old sticks along with one of these, let me know, have had a fair amount of success, will need voltage and advanced DRAM timings adjustments, but have had some success
