My 320 gb caviar blue(few years old) is averaging at about 41-42c,but it's hot as hell in my room like 30+ degrees celsius. In normal room temp my hard drive stays at 36-37c. Is 41c a reason to worry during this HOT summer?

Solution
Yes your drive temp is operating at a safe temperature. Obviously it could only be running a couple degrees hotter due to your room being as " hot as hell". I would not worry to much about your HDD, however there are possible solutions such as a room fan pointing in the direction of the front intake fan(s) which could decrease the temp.

I have never seen a hdd temp, however, my drive feels warm to the touch so must be warmer than 32 c. I would not worry in hot weather about 42 c. I WOULD worry about your not exactly hi end drives age. Your post should pick it up if it starts to fail and warn you, but in your boots I would buy another mid range drive for master and use the old one as a slave until problems are detected (this could be ages yet despite its age).

On my desktop my Seagate 1TB runs at about 21 degrees. Its 7200 RPM and it runs my computer quick and works just fine (an SSD is in order for gaming soon). But on my laptop I have a Toshiba 500 GB 5200 RPM and it runs at 41 degrees. Things on the laptop take forever to load and generally windows related things like control panel and explorer will start not responding and often windows explorer will just have to restart (this means the taskbar and desktop need to reload. I know 41 degrees is within safe operating temps but is this causing my computer to run poorly?
