I'm looking at possibly getting a different graphics card, as my Sapphire HD 5450 has been having issues (see: http://). My HP DC5800 SFF has a 240W PSU, and according to its manual, the PCIe x16 slot only supplies a maximum of 25W. I'd rather not downgrade, so what would my options be? The only cards that I've been able to find would be the HD 4550 or HD 6450 (DDR3)...are there any others I'm missing?

I just went down a similar road looking for a graphics cards for a Dell 960 Optiplex SFF. I've got a 235W PS. There is a 512MB and 1GB version of this nVidia card on New Egg.

I'm not getting one since it was pointed out to me that I already have similar graphics on my on-board video. Anyway, one of the cards stated in "details" on the New Egg site that it could require up to 75W, which matches what someone else replied about the PCIe slot being able to supply, to your post. My software from my battery back-up unit indicates I draw about 95W to 115W when I'm using my computer. I think you'll be good with one of these cards.

I need help to help you.
I am not so familiar with HP manuals, so from which manual you got your picture. I am looking into different HP model manuals where stronger PCIE card was used and I want to find the same information as you presented.
Below is the list of manuals, which one should have the same wattage information?

I wouldn't discount the possibility of only 25W being delivered via the PCIe x16. It's very possible that they intended the user not to upgrade graphics card/assumed that nobody would try and use a high power draw graphics card on a SFF PC.

I would err on the side of caution and go with a HD 6450. After all, if the faster card doesn't actually work, you might as well have a brick.

Sorry I've taken so long to respond; I could not find similar wattage information for that particular PC as from the DC5800 Manual I took that excerpt from. The closest thing I could find was on page 19 of this manual. I've highlighted the pertinent area in red below:

Excellent find, now my turn as promised.

SAPPHIRE 100357LP Radeon HD 7750 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002

Now surprise. Go to second page of Feedback and look for post of TazarZero:

5 out of 5 eggsRating: 5/5Best bang for the buck!

Pros: I am pleased to share that this card works painlessly in an HP Slimline s3400f that came with a 165w psu! I bought this to improve on a low-power upgrade plan from the original specs. Over time (since 2008), this tiny system has gone from 2.7Ghz cpu - hard drive - onboard graphics to 2.9Ghz (nothing great i know) - ssd - 7750 discrete graphics. The cpu is the bottleneck now as far as performance goes, but for what this system is used for, this HD7750 has given it an acceptable outcome (for someone who's used to working with video editing machines). The HD7750 has made the noise level far more tolerable as the system sits upright on my desk (less than 2 feet from my head, it's a tight space), and under the same usage scenario is as quiet as larger case fans (120mm and up) whereas the HD4650 it replaced got obnoxious after running for about 10 minutes.

Cons: The only complaint I have, which I can't really do anything about, is that the DAY AFTER I purchased this, and confirmations had been made and all, the price was lowered by $5... *sigh*

Other Thoughts: - Yes, it works with the skimpiest of psu's. It doesn't get much lower then 165w.
- W.E.I: HD4650 1GB 5.0 (graphics) and 6.4 (gaming graphics); HD7750 1GB 7.4 (graphics AND gaming graphics).
- Yes, it is peacefully quiet, even when sitting less than 2 ft from the system.
- No, it does not cook you breakfast - doesn't get warm enough to do so (the s3400f has decent passive cooling in the side of the case).

Overall, Yes, I am a satisfied customer. I'm happy enough with the performance of the HD7750 to let the price drop pass.

Delivered.

You said you have 240 watt, LOL, this sound a lot compare to 165 watt as stated above!

You got your answer, get it and enjoy life while you can!

I consider problem solved using very good (in comparison) example.

P.S. If you finding any answers particularly helpful to you, please mark it as Pick A solution, to solve the thread - it will benefit others, searching for the same question.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment, and I already bought an XFX 4550 several days ago. I got it in the mail yesterday, but I'm having the exact same issue with this card. An interesting note however; I tried playing Titan Quest today, and ran into the same problem (screen flickering black every so often) in full screen mode, but had no flicker at all in windowed mode. I won't be playing games in windowed mode; most newer games don't support it, and that game had a poor frame rate in windowed mode for some reason, but I thought noting that could help me identify the issue. So, any ideas about the possible culprit?

EDIT: Another note, I tried out Velvet Assassin last night, and noticed a different flickering issue; instead of flickering black, an outline of a window would flicker onscreen at times.

This is not PSU to blame, but a weak video card.
First you had 5450 and now you got 4550, you actually purchased even weaker card http://www.hwcompare.com/412/radeon-hd-4550-256mb-vs-radeon-hd-5450/
Can you return it? It is worse than original.:ange:

I realize this a somewhat old thread but I'd like to point out that the recommend a 25watt or less video card not that thats the max it is capable of. the reason they recommend a small power consumption one is because of the heat a higher power one would generate. If you could some how modify the case to accommodate and additional fan you should be fine with a higher watt graphics card as long as your PSU has enough power to support it.
