Hello.

I own a corsair sp2500 gaming audio 2.1 and was wondering if adding a dedicated sound card to my ASRock z77 eXtreme 4 motherboard would increase my sound quality or if the speaker system has a built in one. Thanks :)

That's an old question which gets different answers, and I think it's due in part to different people having more or less discriminating hearing. What you're doing when you listen counts, as you won't notice as much a difference if you're more distracted as in multi-tasking. A better sound card will improve quality, by how much can be a bit subjective. However, you don't have to pay through the nose for a decent sound card either (there are good ones for less than I paid for mine)
No typical desktop speaker set has a built-in sound chip, it just reproduces the signal it gets out of the PC. That seems to be a pretty decent set (it should be for it's price :p) so it might benefit from a better sound card (that is, you'd notice a bigger difference than with "standard" speakers). Good sound cards don't have to be too expensive, compared to other stuff like CPU or GPU. I enjoy my Asus Xonar DX (about $80 at newegg) with a pair of Sennheiser headphones for music.

Thanks guys. I've just built the system in my signature and I love it. I know sound cards help reduce CPU stress, but that really isnt an issue with this one. Just wasnt sure how much better quality sound I was going to get for the $

Yeah, nticeably better thn onboard say $40, but if your a music buff like skizz then $80. I dont see the point after that, spend it on your home hi fi.

I'll keep digging to see. My motherboard has an onboard HD 7.1 channel sound card that performs well, and im not the sound freak as much as my roommate will be. Using my computer for most media I am trying to find the best option that I can.
