what size is the power supply? the reference gtx770 uses 230w by itself
update: looks like the x51 has a 330w psu, and the gtx555 uses 150w according to the nvidia website. other than the psu not having enough power, the case is too small for a gtx770. you could upgrade to a 760(170w) or 750/750ti when it releases, they probably will fit in the case and not use too much power, and they will give you more performance.

the size of the power supply is pretty huge and heavy when it came with the alienware X51,

The powersupply of the x51 is a 330 watt power brick therefor the best graphics card it can support without upgrading power supply also is the gtx 660. THE 330 WATT POWER SUPPLY CANT SUPPORT A GTX 670 SAFELY DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

The gtx 670 does work with the x51. I have the gtx 670 FTw in my x51 for over a year now and it works perfectly. No issues at all.
