  1. For gaming the better choice will be the Phenom II 965. The bonus part is if you get a 970 or 990fx chipset motherboard, you can eventually upgrade to the latest and best Amd Cpu. Their next offering will also be based on the Am3+ socket.
  2. They are a close call but I would go with the FX6100 as it is part of the Piledriver architecture which is a great CPU. However I would recommend getting the FX6300 or for a bit extra the FX8350 (IF YOUR SOLE PURPOSE IS TO GAME).

Benchmark between FX6100 and phenom X4 965 BE.

  8. You just need to make sure your motherboard supports AM3+ CPU's and that your PSU is suffice.

The difference between 970 and 990FX is a lack of SLI support from the 970 chipset

    i would suggest this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113285

the best value CPU Available at the moment , 8 cores , overclockable , powerful for gaming .

    with this motherboard .

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131872

both for 245 , or you can get cheaper motherboard , but you won't be able to overclock with cheaper motherboards .

this is the best thing you can do with your 250 $ i guess .

btw , the FX-8320 will be better choice for you than the FX-8350 since it's cheaper by - 35 ~ 40 $ , both has the same specs but the FX-8350 has higher clock speed ( FX-8320 3.5 GHz - FX-8350 4.0 GHz ) anyway , you can overclock your FX-8320 to higher than 4.2 easily to get an FX-8350 for 160 $ only .
  10. Or get the 6300 which comes very close to the FX8320 and get a better motherboard with more features.

  11. Many Many thanks kareemGT ...:)
  12. The FX8320 is basically an 8 core version of the 6300 and is futureproof for next gen games.

    check this out :

    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+FX-8320+Eight-Core - FX-8320 for 160 $
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+FX-6300+Six-Core - FX-6300 for 115 $
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+FX-6100+Six-Core - FX-6100 for 119 $
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+Phenom+II+X4+965 - AMD Phenom II X4 965 for 135 $

which one do you prefer ?? think about Value/performance .

( the best one for Value/Performance is the FX-8320 - i suggest to you to get this and overclock it to 4 GHz to get the same performance of the FX-8350 for 160 $ only )
  16. This way it leaves you a bit of money to invest in a good after maret CPU cooler such as the Evo 212 or Noctua NH-D14

    which way ?
  18. You should get this
It would be a huge upgrade
PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

    CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor ($159.67 @ Amazon)
    Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($84.99 @ Newegg)
    Total: $244.66
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)
    (Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-07-28 18:31 EDT-0400)
Aftewards add a cpu cooler and u can just clock it to match it with 8350
  19. Your way Kareem.

I think getting the FX8320, a mid-end Motherboard and a good After market CPU cooler will be a good Upgrade and his performance will be better.

+1 to this upgrade , but if you want an Asus motherboard ( since it's the best motherboards company )

you can get this on for 80 and it has the same specs as that ASrock Motherboard

ya that's right , he will get a boost in his PC performance , well it's an Huge boost .
  22. Best for him to invest in a motherboard which has good quality VRM so he can overclock efficiently.
  23. Btw , the FX-8320 stock fan(heatsink) is from coolermaster company , it's awesome for temps but it's very load since it can reach +5000 RPM

you can overclock the FX-8320 using the stock cooler .

am using the FX-8350 @ 4.2 GHz with it stock fan , the max load temps are awesome , max 60 C avg 52 C

    idle temps : Max 30 C Avg 25 C
  24. what are your game temps thats very good for idle. Even my water cooler doesnt keep it that cool but we are having a heatwave in this country.
  25. Its the best for him to have 970 extreme 3
    Its a great quality mobo
He can easily oc. On it

    gaming temp : Battlefield 3 Ultra setting 1920 x 1080 - + 70 FPS : max temps 60 avg 52

    btw , i live in Dubai :D ( +40° day , night 35° )
  27. holy hell (Literally). Pretty good temperatures then. My overclocked 4.1Ghz FX6300 full load is 46. I have six cooling fans.

The Asus has USB 3.0 headers for a case that has USB 3.0 front ports. Also, the Asus has 6 SATA ports as opposed to 5 on the AsRock. However, the ASRock has an eSATA port . The Asus has a 3 year warranty as opposed to ASRock which has 1 year warranty. Other than that, pretty much the same features.

for me !! i would go with the Asus , But I don't think he would go wrong either way , both has pretty much the same specs .
