Hi, I've just put together my first PC Build and although everything was fine at first I have run into an issue with my two front Chassis Fans.

They are both PWM Akasa Apache's and are both plugged into the same mobo (ASUS P8Z77-V LX) header with an Akasa PWM splitter. The same configuration applies to the two rear fans and the second mobo Chassis Fan header.

At first they spun up when the system started and ran at a visually steady speed. The BIOS only showed N/A for their RPM. It did however pick up the Cooler Master CPU fan RPM.

Since installing the various ASUS drivers from the disk the front Chassis Fans have ceased to spin. The rear ones, however, continue as before.

The BIOS now shows the RPM for the front fans at 200 and in red, which is wrong because they aren't spinning at all, only occasionally twitching. The BIOS continues to display N/A for the rear fans, which as I mentioned still function fine.

This issue has me perplexed, any ideas as to what may have gone wrong?

Try removing the splitter, plug 1 fan into mobo & retest. does it work properly?

Hi ur6beersaway, thanks for the quick response and sorry for my late reply.

Unfortunately the fan cables are frustratingly short and the only reason they can reach the mobo header in the first place is because of the splitter...typical! :-P

Anyway, seeing as I had the case open I thought I might try unplugging the the splitter and popping it in again, in case it was loose or whatever. The fans came on this time and have continued to run for the last half hour or so. If it's ok with the mods I'll leave this thread open for bit in case the problem reoccurs, then all being well I'll select your answer as the solution for prompting me to check the connection!!! X-D

Well, unfortunately the problem has reoccurred. It is very frustrating, after pulling out the splitter and re-inserting it yesterday the front fans ran all day despite several restarts as I was installing drivers from utility disks. Today, I start it up and nothing. Just the same twitching suggesting the fans are trying to spin but can't. Meanwhile the rear fans are happily spinning away.

Sounds like the splitter, try powering a fan from the PSU directly.
