Some games suddenly having periodic frame rate issues after a few minutes play time.

As the title implies, some games have a terrible drop in framerate after a few minutes of play time. I've applied new thermal paste to the CPU and cleaned out all the fans of dust in an effort to fix things, but nothing seems to work.
Specs:
AMD FX-8150
Radeon 7850
Gigabyte 970A-D3
700 watt power supply
