so i recently put my old pc parts together to make a new pc. Ik that all of the parts work, because they were all used recently. The only thing I am not sure about is the Hard Drive. The only new thing is the RAM. it is 8gb. What happens is that when i start it up, everything is normal. I boot from a disk to install windows. Then, lines go accross the screen and I cant do anything. Then when I try to start up again, the monitor gets no signal. When I wait for around an hour, it stats up again.

Solution
did you put new thermal paste when the system was rebuild also try it with only one stick of memory ,i use this to check my temp it is free http://www.hwinfo.com/

Yes that is what I thought. I just don't understand how. The CPU fan and case fan both work properly. Could I be something with the RAM?

ok, I got thermal paste, but it didnt fix the problem. However, this time, the pc made a noise. It sounded like it was coming from the area where the RAM is. I am not sure weather it is the media drive or the ram. Tomorrow I will try with one piece. If that doesn't work, i swap out the ram with the ram that the motherboard came with. Any sugestions?

I have a question. Could the RAM even be the problem? If the PC was able to start, should that mean the RAM is fully functional?
