Budget Range: 100-250 After Rebates; After Shipping

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Light Gaming, Surfing the internet

Buying a monitor: No

Parts to Upgrade(in order of importance): Hard Drive, GPU, RAM, wireless adapter, Fans

Buying OS: No

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg or amazon

Location: South Texas, USA

Overclocking: No

SLI or Crossfire: No

Additional Comments: What I'm really having trouble with it checking compatibility with this old clunker of a tower. I also want to make it more quiet.

Why I am Upgrading: I found an old mid-sized tower in my parent's house the other day. It turns out that they don't use it anymore because the fans suddenly got really loud and it can't connect to the internet anymore. I figured I would take it and replace what parts I can, and use it to tide me over gaming-wise until I save up to build a gaming pc. The games would be pretty light, TF2, minecraft, etc.

Current Parts:

Motherboard: micro-ATX, info below in link
http://

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7500 LE

Memory: 1024MB

HDD: 300GB

Pertinent Questions:
How should I go about cleaning this old rig?
If I want to replace the hard drive, will an OS migration retain all my parent's old data that they want to keep?

Solution
I highly recommed you to Go for PC..... As you have mention your budget is $250? According to this you should buy a 4GB of DDR3 Ram....... Hardisk u already have mention, buy if you want a 320 GB of Hdd. You wanna play games,so you should but a good G.P.U.Yes,buy a 4GB DDR3 of ram,and imp is that u should buy a good g.p.u..... link for HDD http://www.flipkart.com/seagate-momentus-320-gb-laptop-internal-hard-drive-st9320325as/p/itmd2rynfw3f6d4x?pid=IHDD2RYNFR24BDFC&otracker=browse&pageNum=1 link for G.P.U yes this is good for you the sapphire hd 7770 although its price is less but the g.p.u is awesome...
Does the mobo support DDR or DDR2? Either way you will need to upgrade it to 4gb to make it even remotely ok for gaming. Not to mention a GPU upgrade is needed. Is it AGP or PCI-E if its either DDR1 or AGP completely forget about it. Even if its DDR2, that stuffs quite expensive.

I'd just grab maybe an APU + cx500 + 4gb ddr3 if you can get it cheap enough. If not then uh... Used xbox/ps3?
