I want to upgrade my monitor which is a 17 inch CRT one. I want to go for either an 18.5 inch [16:9] or 19 inch [4:3] monitor. I hope I am correct with the specifications. I don't want to go for a larger one as I have an old graphic card which will not be able to handle large resolutions plus I don't want to upgrade it either. I will be using it majorritively for gaming. So I want it RICH in colours say a high contrast ratio and very fast response time and a large viewing angle just like my CRT. Which company lcd or led in those resolutions do you advise I should go for. Thanks for your help.

This would suffice.

LED so it has a better backlight than LCD which emits truer colours.
Native Resolution is 1440 x 900
aspect ratio is widescreen
Refresh rate overall is very good for gaming
Vertical Refresh Rate 76 H
Horizontal Refresh Rate 83 kHz
Response time is 5ms which is fast! it is very difficult to tell the difference between 5ms and 2ms, Believe me!

Just go for an IPS 1920x1080 monitor and lower the resolution... and be sure it is an ips.

how much do you want to pay ?

IT IS rather hard to find a monitor with the IPS feature with such a small screen. You usually find them nowadays in screen sizes minimum of 23". IPS is good but it isn't absolutely necessary.

I never used TN crap panels ... IPS is a MUST . and today they are cheap .

and he Just wants 18 inch for the low resolution . he can get full HD and lower the resolution..

and he said :

"So I want it RICH in colours say a high contrast ratio and very fast response time and a large viewing angle just like my CRT"

and you give him no ips ????

he SAID he wanted wide Viewing angle , and RICH COLORS . Only IPS Gives that.

First of all thank you all of you for the great and valuable feedback all have given and added to my knowledge. Since I am totally new to this site I guess it may be advisable to pick an answer that is perfect. It hurts me to distinguish between someone’s answer as a solution since it’s not one or two who know ample. I am sure each has ample knowledge. I think I will research more on asus and benq as advised. Plus I will also take note of that IPS thingy. The more important thing now for me is to see if these two models are easily available in the local markets as they are flooded with Samsung and dells.

Yes SNA3 I appreciate good jokes. You are right. I still am way back in the times. I still have a corded mouse and I still have xp on my machine with radeon 4350. :)

One last question before closing this thread. With respect to Bevq its says 19 inch widescreen (i guess 16:9). But I guess 15, 17, 19, 21 and 23 inch are all 4:3. then how come they say widescreen that is 16:9. Thank you all very much.
