Hi guys,
I got my hands on a CIVF + PhII X6 1090t used combo for a very low price. I have 2 spare 8gb ddr3 ram sticks for a total of 16gb of ram. Officially this motherboard supports up to 4x 4gb sticks, just because, as I've learned, at the time this motherboard was released there were no 8gb ram sticks yet.
Does anyone know if they added the support for 8gb sticks in the most recent bios updates? Has anyone ever tried to see if it works with this motherboard or other 890fx motherboards?

Edit: i bought it but it's going to be shipped in the next few days. I wouldn't want to buy more ram, since i paid 150 euros for the ram mentioned above. That's why I'm asking thanks

ok, I've posted the image confirming that a Crosshair IV Formula suports individual 8gb ram sticks.. I have 16gb of ram installed as of now... i didn't have to update the bios to have it support the ram (i flashed the bios afterward)

the only question remaining is whether this motherboard supports up to 32gb of ram or not

so the question is solved :) thanks for your help

Yeah, I see your point. They may never have added support for 8 gb ram sticks. Could it be some hardware limitation?
Anyway, I'll try and see if it works. One more question: would it at least post and not see all the 8 gb?

No it wouldn't even post if the RAM not matches with the MB requirement. The architecture is completely different and also electrically and its a hardware limitation also so I think it won't work. Its not only about software(BIOS) its also about hardware settings. Though you could try with the RAM, it wont hart you badly or in other words it will not fry the MB or any components, at the most what will happen it will not post, and nothing more. Good luck.
