I was just about to buy a new i5 3470, when a guy offered me to buy a used i7 3770 for the same price!

My question is, considering that the CPU is just one year old, how likely could it be that it has some faults? And what would you get in my place, a new i5 or a used i7 for the same price?

The problem with purchasing used CPU's is that the previous owner could have massively overclocked it and not used sufficient cooling resulting in a bad condition CPU with a shortened life span. However, you don't have any way of knowing whether the CPU actually works unless you see the PC operating with that CPU in it. The question is do you trust this guy have you known him for a long time?

He'll give me a one week test period, so I don't worry about it not working at all. The problem is he's not the original owner of the CPU, so that's what has me slightly worried. I'll need to think about this, a lot. :D
