Recently my computer wouldn't start up. I have narrowed down the problems to an operating system crash or a hard drive failure. I have a windows xp sp2 operating disc that i'm trying to put on the computer, but it keeps giving me a blue screen error. The computer is a Gateway GT5628, that was running Vista. The disc says it is distributed with only HP products. Is that the reason why it won't work or is it the hard drives problem?

not really. I betcha the PC has stickers on it that say something like "made for Vista" of something. you might be able to use an XP SP3 disk. It looks like your only option is to pull the HDD out and pop it into another PC that will boot to the disk, then install windows to the HDD and move the HDD back to the original PC. It should boot after that, and if it doesn't, you should be able to get drivers onto it from the second PC, then move it back again...
I have an older computer thats made for XP. So what your saying is i can pull out the hard drive from the older computer, put the newer hard drive in, and maybe install windows xp? and that won't take xp off the older hard drive either because it is pulled. Is the any risk of that changing BIOS settings to so it wouldn't boot to the older hard drive?

You are correct. Nope, no risk. BIOS doesn't work that way. I've done it countless times. You can actually leave the old HDD in the old PC, but then you run a high risk of accidentally messing with it instead (been there-done that). Pull it out and replace it w/ the new one, and you are set to do w/e u want. Replace the old HDD in the old PC when you're done and it'll work like it did before you pulled the HDD out of it.

did u try booting to safe mode?
you prly didn't install the drivers for the mobo before moving it over, you'll need to install those. That'll either need to be done in safe mode or on the Old PC again.
