Purchased a new motherboard (Going from a ASRock Pro 4 To an Extreme 4) and just wanted to know how to uninstall windows completely so i can do a clean install when i put in the new motherboard. I have a ssd as boot drive and a HDD for storage so have everything i want to keep on the hdd.

Solution
Baring what mauller07 stated,

If you want to remove Win 7 from SSD and do a clean install, it is really simple.
Disconnect HDD, leave SSD connected.
.. Insert Window3 install disk and boot to DVD.
select Custom and on page showing HDD, select advanced and DELETE all partitions - Solved, old windows gone.
.. Then just select the NOW unpartitioned SSD to install windows to.
just straight up replace the motherboard, windows should work perfectly fine since you have changed between two boards with similar chipset.

i have gone between 3 different amd boards with the same windows install and not had to fresh install or had any problems.

This is what i was looking for. Thanks. I did consider with the 2 boards both being asrock and z77 that i might be able to just leave windows. Im going to create an image of the windows disc on a usb and install from that, using usb 3.0 and an ssd its so fast to install i thought i might aswell. Ive just read about people having a few issues with old board drivers so thats why i thought be best off with a clean install.

So i guess ill just install the new board and then set boot drive from bios and follow the above steps and ill be ok? Be just like a clean install from there?

Also ive an OEM copy of windows,i know its linked to the first board its installed on,but if i tell microsoft the previous board died they should allow me to activate the copy on the new board. Has anyone experienced this? Or would i be best off just being honest and telling them ive upgraded the board? I bought the copy of windows in january of this year

OEM versions of Windows 7 are identical to Full License Retail versions except for the following:

- OEM versions do not offer any free Microsoft direct support from Microsoft support personnel

- OEM licenses are tied to the very first computer you install and activate it on

- OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

- OEM versions cannot be used to directly upgrade from an older Windows operating system

OEM vs. Retail

OEM Windows 7 comes preinstalled on computers. This is the cheapest way to buy windows. Large PC manufacturers like Dell, HP etc. (collectively called royalty OEMs) install windows on millions of such PCs. The main characteristics of such systems are:

The license agreement and support agreement is between you and the PC maker, not MS.

Activation by the end user is not required. Windows is preactivated at the factory by the OEM using images and standard SLP keys.

Your copy of windows is locked to that PC. The license is not transferable.

OEM system builder is what you get when you buy from say Newegg or from a local "white box" vendor. It too has the characteristics of Royalty OEM windows. Although it is possible for an individual to buy a System Builder copy, the license requires that the software be installed using the OPK (OEM preinstall kit) and then resold.

Retail version is what you buy from a retailer like Amazon or Bestbuy. Its a full price version that comes packaged in a retail box with a retail product key. It has to be activated online via MS servers using the key on the box, it is not tied to the PC it was first installed on, though it can only be used on a single computer at a time. And, MS directly provides the support for it. It is also more expensive than OEM copies.

As far as functionality is concerned, theres no difference between any of the versions above, given any specific edition (i.e. between OEM pro and retail pro, or between OEM ultimate and retail ultimate).

Windows 8 OEM is a whole different ballgame.
