For a system that would be used for gaming and some computational programming abuse, what would be the better setup to have? (for both short AND long-term use):

CPU: i7-4770k 3.5GHz....$340
GPU: GTX 760...............$260
-$600

or

CPU: i5-4670k 3.4GHz....$240
GPU: GTX 770...............$410
-$650

IMO I see the i7 as a better value because it's cheaper, going to last longer in the tech race and can handle higher processing later in the future (I'm an incoming CS freshman). Compared to maybe an average 10 higher fps in games with the 770.

What do you all think?

There's literally no difference in games between i7s and i5s, both have very nice compute power. As for Haswell vs. Ivy Bridge, Z87 packs a lot of great stuff (6 6G SATA native) so I'd take Haswell.
As for GTX 760 vx 770, I'd say go with a GTX 780 or equivalent AMD (there's none right now). The 780 is more powerful, based on the GK110, and should hold up for a decent amount of time longer than the GK104 cards.

The prices were from newegg.com and I was referring to an EVGA cards as they are of highest quality and come in superclocked versions.
