Umm... Did I overclock it?

I used the amd catalyst control centre to set my A4-3300 frequency to 4ghz.

Now I have noticed a performance increase when playing battlefield 3 but not what I would have expected at a +1.5ghz overclock.
So I checked my cpu temps and it's staying around 30 degrees at full load and it stays around 30 for hours and I would have expected it to get hotter because I'm using a stock cooler.

Yes I know this isn't a proper overclock since I'm using the catalyst program but I only did it because I don't know how to overclock properly and also because my cpu's multiplier is locked (is that the reason why the performance isn't as expected?).

Solution
Yes you did. For the record you should never max out an overclock like that, it's just asking for trouble. Take it slowly and follow the guides. The A4-3300 is only a dual core CPU so most coolers can easily dissipate the extra heat which is why you're not noticing a substantial increase in temperature. Your room may be a bit warmer though.

What should I worry about if I maxed it out then?

failure due to excessive voltage. According to your CPUz screenshot it's running at 1.43 volts. I'm not sure what the safe limits are on AMD CPUs but this is a bit high.
