Hey guys,

This is what I have planned for my build at the end of the year. Could you give me tips on how I can improve it in terms of performance & minor upgrades (Cooling System etc).

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k (OC to ~4.5)
GPU: Gigabyte 2xAMD Radeon HD 7950(or 7970) -> 3 fans
RAM: Corsair Vengence Red (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz
Motherboard: MSI ATX DDR3 1333 LGA 1150 Z87-GD65 Gaming
SSD: 2xSamsung 840 120GB
HDD: Western Digital 3TB Caviar Black
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX750G 80PLUS Gold 750W
Cooling: (Planning to do watercooling, any advice for both AIO and Custom?)

Thanks in advance!

Wrong, wrong wrong.

First of all, at the end of the year, God willing, AMD will be coming out with their new 8000 series. If it is anything like Nividia's 700 series, it will instantly make all of AMD's other GPU's obsolete. You simply cannot plan this closely months in advance.

Second, Samsung has the 840 EVO 250GB coming out in a week or two. It will be cheaper and faster than two of the 840 120GB's. You don't need to Raid 0 SSD. They sort of do it themselves already. Just look how larger SSD's tend to be faster than smaller ones.

Third, five months from now, everything will be different. Motherboards, ram, power supplies, you simply have to wait before setting up a purchase plan.

I thought that nVidia wasn't going to release the 8xxx series till next year? However, I believe that Amd will release something later this year. Due to it's price, the Samsung 840 Evo is a good SSD, but it's not the best performer. The 840 Pro and Sandisk Extreme II are better for different reasons.

To expand on what babernet_1 said, it's pointless to get into specifics on what you want to buy this far out. Your best bet will be to save money for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. You'll find a ton of deals then, and if you have the money you can really capitalize on them.

Actually, the 8000 series won't be coming out this year. AMD will be releasing it's 9000 series with a brand new architecture (unlike NVIDIA's 700 which was just was refresh). It should perform extremely well since it's going to be new and it should cause NVIDIA to lower their price to compete with AMD. NVIDIA always release their gpu a bit expensive, and then when AMD comes out with their new gpus, NVIDIA lowers their price to compete.

Actually my original plan was to get a gtx 780 and further on, get a second 780 for sli. But a friend of mine who has built quite a few pcs before advised me against it due to the price comparison. 2x79xx > 1x 780 and it's cheaper.

For the SSDs i'll keep that in mind and i'll look out for them once it's released.
Samsung PRO series is still in consideration though. I'm looking for something more performance orientated.

Still keeping an eye out for discounts so I can snipe them off the shelves. I don't live in the USA so I can't take advantage of all the sales you guys have there. Budget is still a concern here for me.

Thanks for the advise! I will post again closer to the purchase date.

Did you see the review of the Samsung 840 EVO 250GB? Its speed would be indistinguishable from from an 840 Pro and it is cheaper. The boot times and loading times would be within a second. The only way a pro would be noticeably faster would be in a Server environment.

The prices for the evo actually look really great!
Thanks for the advice, seems like my money can be better spent on the evo instead.
