I have done lots of searching and have not found a question with the same setup as mine. I have three monitors, 2 1680x1050 and 1 1920x1080. I have some older GFX cards lying around. I want to get the best performance out of my games. I only run games on 1 1680x1050 monitor (which is in the center of my setup). In order to get better performance in games should I hook only that monitor up to my main graphics card and the two side monitors up to my secondary graphics card? Or does it not matter if I have two cards on my main graphics card and only one on the secondary card? FYI I am not running SLI, the two cards do not even support SLI with each other. The main is a GTX260 and the secondary is a 7950GT.

My thoughts behind this are that the main graphics card will only have one monitor to render therefore giving me an increase in FPS in game. Is this thinking correct?

Correct. If doing it the way you describe then you want your single gaming monitor on the best video card, with the other two on the second card. Why are you not using the 1080 as the primary?

The 1080 is a TV that is too big to fit on my desk. I mostly use it for streaming movies and my Xbox. Once I get a bigger desk it will become my primary, but for now I am stuck with the current setup.
