Hi,

I have just started to get back into PC gaming after a while out and want to know based on the newer games coming out like BF4 what the best route would be - upgrade my old system or start again!

Current System:
Power - Zalman 750W PSU

CPU - Intel Quad core Q6660 2.4Ghz (Overclocked to 3Ghz)

Graphics - BFG GeForce GTX 260

Motherboard - ASUS P5B Deluxe

Memory - 8GB 800MHz Dominator XMS2

HDD - 60Gb OCZ Vertex SSD (OS + Games)
HDD2 - Seagate 250GB (Data)

OS - Vista Pro 64bit

Hope you might have some suggestions I am willing to spend about £200 ($320) upgrading my GPU if the CPU can take the newer games otherwise I'll have to save up to spend about £800 ($1300) on a new CPU/Board/Mem/GPU combo.

If I have to start again, am I better of going i5 and getting a better GPU?

the games I am playing are WoT, CM etc but want to start playing BF4 when it comes out plus other 1st person games.

Thanks in advance.

Sav.

Personally, I would recommend starting again if you have the money. I would go with an FX-8350 (AMD) on the AM3+ socket 990FX motherboard or an Intel 1155 Ivy Bridge CPU and motherboard. I would get a i5-3570K because an i7-3770K is pretty much a waste of money. Anyway, yeah, I'd start from scratch :)

According to BF4CENTRAL.COM the recommended CPU is 'Quad core CPU (Intel Core i5 or i7) at 3 Ghz'

you could just upgrade your GPU for now and when you have the cash upgrade the rest but will eventually have to refresh your entire build

Oh yeah of course but if you are short with money and if you are not planning to OC i would go with AMD they have pretty good CPUs for a low price, and they can OC aswell.

Recommended changes:

Power - Zalman 750W PSU---- Keep

CPU - Intel Quad core Q6660 2.4Ghz (Overclocked to 3Ghz)---- Upgrade to FX 6300

Graphics - BFG GeForce GTX 260 ---- Upgrade to GTX 760

Motherboard - ASUS P5B Deluxe ---- Upgrade to AM3+

Memory - 8GB 800MHz Dominator XMS2---- Upgrade to 8GB 1600MHz DDR3

HDD - 60Gb OCZ Vertex SSD (OS + Games)----Keep
HDD2 - Seagate 250GB (Data)----Upgrade to 1TB

OS - Vista Pro 64bit---- Upgrade to Windows 8 64 bit

You can keep your current system and buy the parts as you can afford them. The Core 2 Quad Q6660 at 3GHz can play Battlefield 3 which means it might be able to play Battlefield 4 considering the engine for Battlefield 4 will be the same. Selling your old parts might help a bit with the cost of upgrading.

Thank you all for your speedy input :) - looks like I will have to upgrade most of the key items to get a decent performance in the new games.

Looks like AMD CPU is a good bet for value for money and the GTX 760 is good value for performance item for the GPU.

Thanks
Sav

Those parts combined with some old parts will do great.
