Hey all,

I was doing some work on a friends computer and determined her HDD is dead (locking on splash screen and I cannot get the HDD to come up at all once I've put it in an enclosure). So I had her buy a new HDD and I need to clean install windows 7, can I do this through the recovery discs or do I need to get an actual copy of windows? I have options for both but I just want to make sure I am doing this correctly. Also I have heard that the laptop I am working with (Samsung Chronos Series 7 700Z) may be difficult to clean install. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start your computer from a Windows 7 installation disc or USB flash drive.

On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms, and then click Next.

On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).

Click the partition that you want to change, click the formatting option you want to perform, and then follow the instructions.

When you've finished formatting, click Next.

Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows 7, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.

Okay thanks for the help she needs this thing soon so I'm just gonna get a clean install of the OS, she didn't make the recovery discs (as always) and so it'll take a while before they are here.
