Okay first of all, I would like to say hello to members of TOMSHARDWARE forums, and this is my first post.

going to topic, I newly upgraded my videocard from Palit GTX 460 to MSI's GTX 660Ti power edition with a good price at our local store. currently my monitor's resolution is 1360x768 @ 60Hz (Samsung SyncMaster 933sn). right now im considering a new monitor.

since this is the only monitor I could afford. I dont consider 1920x1080. since its out of my budget. :(

anyway, im not sure what are the list of resolutions this monitor can handle, and also not sure if refresh rate is @75Hz or 60Hz. I was hoping to get 75hz. and I was also wondering if I would sacrifice a lot of FPS from 1360x768 going upto 1600x900 in terms of gaming. I play FPS games like Crysis 3, and Open world games like GTA IV. and hoping to have more.

Now I need some enlightenment if I should go upgrade this monitor, or stay at my current monitor. since im mostly using this monitor in gaming.

I would also be very happy if you guys wouldn't mind sharing suggestions and insights. Since i have less knowledge in monitors. :). Thanks in advance and godbless to the community.

Solution
1080p is more pixels, therefore lower frame rates. More pixels do, however, mean more detail.

75hz is supported at native resolution.

For the resolution: The monitor will work best and look best at native resolution. (1600x900) It will function at lower resolutions, but at resolutions other than native resolution it will most likely look blurry and in some cases stretched if you do not set it to a resolution with the same aspect ratio. (Width/height) At 1600x900, you should absolutely be fine with a 660Ti. There will be a slight FPS difference, but it won't be huge.

For the refresh rate, it does support 75hz.

For your graphics card, the monitor will offer the best settings, however, a 1080p monitor will give you more options in regards to having multiple windows open or having more of a webpage viewable, for example. Unless you absolutely want high frame rates and high settings, and you do not care about the above, I would wait and save up for a 1080p display.

Hope this helps :D

Yes, i will be prefering higher frame rates at high settings, does that mean, a 1080p will give me higher frame rates than 900p?..

as for the refresh rate, does that mean the native resolution supports 75hz?.. thx.

Oh.. that was kinda obvious. I just found it confusing for you to say that higher frame rates at 1080p. anyway, thanks. Im settled at 1600x900. thats all I want for now. thanks
