Hello, hm..I'll try my best to keep it brief.

Bought a new hard drive as I figured my old one broke, got it up and running bla bla...installing drivers for my 6990m, hey presto black screen upon boot up, just before logging into my account. For some reason I went back and managed to fix my old hard drive thinking that'd help...It didn't. Same problem, black screen.

It didn't happen BEFORE my initial 'hard drive' crash, leading me to think something more sinister is at work, although I've heard about this being quite a common problem, so figured hey, why not give it a shot on the forums (bearing in mind I'm fairly inept when it comes to messing with the bios and other things you advanced techies take forgranted, heh)

Hopefully, some help can be found! Thanks for your time.

get driver fusion and run the amd driver cleaner then restart.

then install the latest amd beta drivers as a custom install and only install the display and hdmi audio driver and untick everything else even catalyst control centre.

see if this helps to get driver remnants as the problem out the way.

Well on the bright side, it's not black screened. On the downside, it's still using the default VGA display.

Well, it essentially doesn't seem to have actually fully installed the drivers, as it's still using (and I quote from device manager) "Standard VGA graphics adapter"

Sadly, another black screen (Put it in safe mode to do a driver rollback, it's now back to being seen as the default VGA device)

it is strange, you may need to do a fresh install of windows.

Hm, I'm not sure if that'd work considering it's the same problem with two hard drives I've used (One of which had a fresh install done today) and I doubt it's caused by a faulty windows, as I used two different versions on both drives.

I'm not saying a fresh install won't work, if you still think it's the best idea, but given what I just wrote out...hm.

Following the advice found here-http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/362286-33-installin...

It appeared to work...for about 5 minutes, then it went to the black screen again. Going to try it again and hope for the best, but hopefully this information can help.

Edit: hasn't helped the second time. Curious...will try again tomorrow on my own steam, unless anyone has anymore ideas.

I'm having similar problems. I'm able to "successfully" install CCC 13.9 but as soon as I reboot my screen goes black right after the windows animation before log in. Note that I have 2 XFX HD 6970s and they DID work perfectly in CF just about 4 days ago. I have no idea what I did to cause this issue, couldnt even begin to remember what I did right before I started having this problem. I taken some steps to try and fix the issue to no avail.

Fresh install on windows 7 and fully updated
Install ALL drivers for my Maximus V Formula motherboard including latest BIOS and Chipset drivers
Driver Sweeper of ALL ATI drivers
Installed 13.10 Beta, 13.4, and 13.9 drivers of course with driver sweeper clearing any old drivers before each install.
Switched the cards physical positions. Note that one card is working perfectly fine! If I remove one of my cards the system works 100% perfect. Once I put the "faulty" card in whether its by itself in the first pci e slot or in CF mode the system notices the card and "installs the drivers successfully" but still black screen after windows animation. Here something else. I can disable the second card and have the first card enabled in device manager. With CCC installed (13.4 or 13.10) the system works fine. As soon as I try to enable the second card to CF the screen flickers and stays on a black screen... then I have to manually shut down the system, reboot into safe mode, disable the second card in device manager, and reboot. then it works fine with 1 card enabled.

lkk it sounds like your powersupply or one of the cards is at fault,m try each card individually and test each pcie slot.

Yep. I'm going through even more extensive troubleshooting. I'm not gonna give up! RMA will be the option I choose after I throw the whole system computer out the window!

if one card works in the system but two do not its most likely the psu, also test each of the pcie 6 pin connectors.
