I bought my pc about two years ago(factory model asus) and just recently upgraded to windows 8. I have also upgraded my GPU to a radeon r7770 and my power supply to thermaltake smart m series 850 watts. my pc one day just started rebooting. it only reboots if I go to the desktop in windows 8 I can use the windows tile screen just fine. Also I set my pc to not reboot on system failure and it still happens. My monitor goes black and then my backlit keyboard and mouse go dark and the whole thing reboots. it then tells me that windows encountered a problem and asks if I would like to send details. I also started it in safe mode and that stopped the problem but I still have no clue what is causing it.

Sounds as if you have a...

Sounds as if you have a driver incompatibility
First try System File Checker
Winkey plus 'X'
Choose Command Prompt (Admin)
Type sfc scannow then Enter
If that fails to improve things try Clean Startup to find the cause

I now know it is the GPU that is causing the problem. there is some problem with the driver and/or its installation. the driver installation disk doesn't work although it installed automatically through the internet. I reinstalled my old graphics card and everything worked just fine. Im currently trying to run the system scan but it requires being on the desktop and my pc reboots too often for it to complete

Try downloading the latest driver for your new GPU from it's Manufacturer's website whilst running with the old one...and if possible choose Troubleshoot Compatibility when you run the Driver Setup File.
I see a Beta version, might be worth a try.

Also there's a possibility that even though it's rated at 850Watts your PSU might be causing the problem.
