Hi all,

I'm in the middle of my first build (for myself) and I'm not sure how much power to connect to the graphics card. The card is an ASUS GTX770-DC2OC. It has an 8-pin and a 6-pin connectors on it.

I have a Corsair HX850 which has 2 6-pin PCIe connectors coming out of it and a number of other cables to connect if I need them including another 6-pin PCIe. The card came with a 2 6-pin to 1 8 pin adapter.

Should I plug the two 6-pins in to the adapter and then into the 8-pin socket AND plug another 6-pin into the 6-pin socket?

I don't want to fry it before even starting.

Thanks for any advice on the correct way to power this card.

Cheers

you need to connect power to all the connectors on the graphics card

so, yes, you need to use the 2 6 pin to 1 8 pin and the additional 6 pin

the card only puuls as much power as it needs. you won't fry it.

are you talking about this PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ?

the item description has 6 x 6+2 PCIe connectors. If you're building the PC yourself, please be sure you're using the right cables. Each PCIe cable should have 2 PCIe connectors. An HX850 should have 3 PCIe cables. Each PCIe connector has a female 6-pin plug with a 2-pin split off. Combining those two would give you your 8-pin connector. If you don't have one that looks like what I described, call up the place you bought the PSU.

Yep, thats the one. So, if I understand you correctly Au_equus, I don't need the adapter that came with the card (2x 6-pin to 1x 8-pin)? I just plug in one 8-pin and one 6-pin that came with the power supply? That correct?

Thanks for the reply and to you too ittimjones. Appreciate your time guys.

I can't think of any reason for the splitter, other than acting as an extension. Yes, one PCIe cable should have enough connectors to power your GPU.
