Hi, I have the following mobo AsusM5A88-EVO. The specs mention the following about the RAM supported " 4 x DIMM, Max. 16GB, DDR3 2000(O.C.)/1866(O.C.)/1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 MHz Memory".
Now the problem is due to unavailability of RAM modules I could only get a 8X1 GB G.Skill RipjawsX(DDR3-1866) where as what i should have got is 4X2 GB Ripjaws. Now you see that the maximum clock cycle of the RAM module is pretty high. When i plug in the 8gb module in mobo, the machine boots fine but ram speed shows up as 677. Setting any higher speed than that from the boot menu, the boot fails ( CPU is not OCed at any time).
My question is "Is there no way to get at least a decent clock cycle on the RAM, may be not the maximum but something decent"?

Solution
Try running a RAM performance test. I fit matches the ones other people get for the same RAM, then it may be CPU-Z, not the RAM. If you are really unlucky, you may have to claim warranty on RAM/MOBO.

No, the voltages are at default value in BIOS. I checked last night and was able to set DRAM freq to 1277 from mobo without any boot issue. But when checked from CPU-Z software the DRAM freq showed 613.3. Not sure if i am understanding it all wrong or does the DRAM freq really suck.
But now that you mention it, i will try tweaking the voltages to see what happens.. Will update about the same
