Hi there,
I have a Crosshair V Formula - Z with an AMD 8320 and I just purchased some Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133mhz cmd8gx3m2a2133c9

And I cannot get it to run 2133.
When I put it down to 1866, I still get a "overclock fail" message; and it will not boot.
I have it set to auto right now, and cpu-z say im running about 669mhz.

What/if anything can I do to get it running at 2133? or even 1866?

thanks guys;
Dave

I just attempted to get it to 1866, but I had no luck.
Im using 1600 now.
What can I do to get it to run 1866?
my processor is overclocked to 4.0 which is less than what I could oc to.
are there any bios settings that Im over looking?

Im reading things online that suggest to overclock the cpu/nb which will inturn allow me to reach 1866, 2133, or even 2400.
and Im also reading that: "
Try looking at the bottom right (in most cases) of your mobo. there should be 2 jumpers. Replace the upper one from 1-2 to2-3 for 30-40 secs. Replace.Do this with power off. If you are not able to find those take out the CMOS battery short the terminals and put it back. "

Will clearing the cmos be the smart thing to try?
is that something I have to do while unplugged? - I ask because there is a button for that on the I/o port of my computer.

well, I cleared the cmos by removing the little battery on the motherboard.
Upon replacing the battery and booting, Im able to run at 1866mhz.
My clocks are 9-9-9-24

I bought these ram sticks today to replace my crucial ballistix sport. (1600mhz)
How sad is it that with my fx8320 and my crosshair v formula z I cant see any real difference between the crucial ballistix and the legendary Corsair Dominator platinum?
Originally running the crucial ram along with the 8320 and the ROG board; I have the MSI 7970oc edition - and feel no difference in performance between the $60 ram and the $130 ram.
Im sad to say that I might be starting to see what the intel fan boys have been saying. (sorry)
So it was natural to want to compliment my personal enthusiast system with ram on the same plane/tier as my mobo and video card.
Today is a sad day today.
None the less, I will stick with the ram for 5-7 days to see if theres any differences in performance that I may have over looked. If I decide to return it, I might opt for the vengeance 1600 or 1866 kits.

In anycase, what would be the best ram to use for my system?
If money was no object; what would be the smartest choice?
Or should I simply keep what I have?

While I agree with you in that no real performance difference is seen/felt between the two frequencies; I still feel its acceptable to run atleast 1866 instead of 1600.
I had 1600 for a while and my budy had 1866.
We have identical processors and ssd's and he always seemed to boot just a bit faster.
.............though I feel no difference in my boot times; But -
Im sure there are different scenarios when I could benefit from the difference in frequencies.
Though no such scenario comes to mind now; you must remember Ive only had the ram for a couple of hours. lol.

Thanks a lot black bird.
