looking for some help... trying to convince a friend he is getting ripped off by purchasing a audio/video editing rig from mac... mediocre hardware in an overpriced mac package. im trying to find a way where I can take PC components and run mac osx. I would prefer to use an intel i7 4770k or 3930k with some 2400mhz ram (16gb min) and a motherboard that can sport 2 or 3 firewire 800 cards. I just want to know if this is possible, and if so do I need a specific software or hardware config to do it?

also throwing it out there, can you clone a mac system to different hardware using an acronis universal restore? not super important, just wondering if anyone has tried.

You can Hackintosh, but I'm guessing that your friend would end up disappointed. Better just to run the equivalent Windows software rather than messing about.

I wanted to get him the windows equivalent programs (pro tools, etc) but he says he cant get his add-ons and plug ins to work with PC. I just think its sad mac has people handing them cash hand over fist for stuff that's 1/4 the price as a PC.
