Hyperthreading is not your problem. The fan/s and cooling fins are most likely caked with dust/dirt. Get a can of compressed air and blow it all out.

Hyperthreading is exclusive to Intel, but yeah it needs to be turned off in the BIOS.
Emily6: Wait? You're saying that your CPU is overheating? Then turning off hyperthreading isn't the solution. You have a deeper problem to solve. Did you monitor your temperatures on idle and under load?
