I've read in this forum about making W98 to work with newer mobos. I'm trying to do that. My installation runs in failsafe mode but when trying to start it normally it doesn't. It starts up and shows the W98 screen for a short period then changes to a DOS-prompt and there I can't do anything because it hangs.
I tried to use the BOOTLOG but I don't know how to figure out the problem.

Question: Is there a way (with Bootlog or some other method) to figure out what goes wrong with the boot? What causes it to hang? Since it boots in failsafe mode
I guess it can't be totally wrong. I haven't installed any extra drivers (yet), I've only installed it from the CD. So W98 has "choosen" everything this far.
I don't know if there is a solution to the hanging but first I have to figure out why it hangs, I guess?

Thanks in advance!

OK, first question:
Why Win98?

Second question:
Might a VM work?

You don't say what hardware you are trying to run 98 with but I imagine it's a lack of drivers preventing it from working. There are just no drivers for newer hardware and by newer I mean 2003 or so. Your best bet is to run it on something like Virtualbox.

Windows 98 is likely to freak out when it cannot see an AGP / GART controller.

I would strongly suggest using Windows 7 Professional with the Microsoft Virtual PC provider that 'Windows XP Mode' uses.
