Well right now I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 running at 2.2ghz (stock and yes i know its ancient). But the thing I am trying to do is overclock it soon but I ran a program called Prime 95 (a stress tester) to see what temps it gets. It got to about 54 Celsius at stock clock speed. Would it be a good idea to overclock my CPU especially since it is fairly old and cant handle as high temps as the new CPU's out on the market?

More about : good temp older cpu

If its like the Core 2 Duo T9800 I put in my laptop the safety cutoff is 105c.. Run a little program called Core Temp, see what it says for the TJ Max.

Anything under 80C to 85C is generally OK.
Under 75C would be more optimal.
